The NBA 2K League announced Thursday afternoon the disqualification of Heat Check Gaming’s Basil “24K Dropoff” Rose from all league competitions and team participation. The disqualification came after Rose was caught providing insider information to an acquaintance for sports-betting purposes.

Although most betting violations in esports involve match-fixing, the investigation into Rose’s tipping found that no attempt to fix a game was made here. Every player and coach involved in NBA activities, including the NBA 2K League, WNBA, and G-League, was constantly reminded by league officials that tipping on games was a direct violation of league rules.

Heat Check Gaming offered a comment on the disqualification. “HEAT Check Gaming believes in the spirit and integrity of competition. We stand behind the league and its ruling.” Rose remained quiet through most of the day until he quote retweeted the league’s announcement late Thursday night and teased a periscope to explain.

The release from the NBA 2K League did not specify if the disqualification of Rose would be for a set period of time or life. Rose has been removed from the league’s website and Heat Check Gaming’s roster page.

24K Dropoff league history

Rose joined the NBA 2K League in 2018 when he was drafted by Heat Check Gaming. He helped Heat Check Gaming to the playoffs in the inaugural season. Heat Check Gaming eventually lost to Knicks Gaming in the league final.

In 2019, Rose could not help the team repeat the same results. He averaged 11 points per game while Heat Check Gaming closed 2019 with a 6-10 record. Heat Check Gaming finished the disappointing season 17th out of 21 teams.

Rose went unprotected by Miami during the player protection period earlier this month. He was set to join three other Heat Check Gaming players and many others around the league in the expansion draft pool.
