Blizzard has confirmed the acquisition of Proletariat to expand the World of Warcraft development pipeline, according to an announcement on Friday.

According to Blizzard, the Proletariat team has been supporting World of Warcraft content since May.

What this means to players

By working together, both the World of Warcraft and Proletariat teams will expand the development pipeline for the MMORPG.

The plan is to keep growing the teams based in Irvine and Boston, but now with shared creative leadership to provide feedback. The goal is to continue to meet or exceed player expectations alongside internal quality and delivery ones.

“The addition of Proletariat brings 100 talented Blizzard employees to this newest Blizzard Entertainment Studio,” the announcement also revealed.

This transition for the Proletariat team will take several months, but Blizzard looks forward to how the combined talent would help meet goals, assist teams and service World of Warcraft players better.

The future of World of Warcraft

Over on Twitter, World of Warcraft Executive Producer Holly Longdale welcomed the Proletariat team, noting that there is a bright future ahead for Azeroth and joining forces for content is only the first step.

Proletariat Co-founder and CEO Seth Sivak also chimed in through a press release. He said he’s incredibly excited to be joining Blizzard, and his team has always strived to put players first. Sivak added that he can’t wait to be part of the World of Warcraft legacy and help build a brighter future for the game.

Founded in 2012 by industry veterans from Harmonix, Insomniac and Turbine, Proletariat has experience in building MMORPGs. Some team members include former lead designers of Asheron’s Call, Dungeons & Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online.
