Popular YouTube streamer Jack “CouRage” Dunlop raised $503,254 during his 12-hour charity stream for the CDC Foundation. The “CouRageous vs. Coronavirus” stream took place from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 23, CouRage’s 26th birthday.
The CDC Foundation is one of the leading efforts against coronavirus at present. 100 Thieves, Courage’s current organization, raised $114,000 for the CDC Foundation last month from jersey sales. Overall the foundation has raised over $44 million to support those impacted by COVID-19. This charity stream is the latest to generate surge of donations.
Raising money with Warzone and Game Fuel
CouRage started the stream with Call of Duty: Warzone, where he played with Matt “Nadeshot” Hagg, Seth “Scump” Abner, and Mason “Symfuhny” Lanier. Mountain Dew Amp Game Fuel, CouRage’s sponsor, pledged to donate $5,000 for every win they got in Warzone. The team was able to win four straight games and secure $20,000 from Game Fuel during the stream.
Over $25,000 had been raised before the stream started, and by 1 p.m. PT they had already met their $250,000 goal. Shortly after the goal had been reached, CouRage moved onto the no-kill challenge in Warzone. Marcel “BasicallyIDoWrk” Cunningham, Jordan “LEGIQN” Payton, and Daithi “Nogla” De Nogla joined him to complete the challenge. While they were unsuccessful in pulling out a win, they did manage to surpass $300,000 by the end of that stream.
CouRage then went on to stream the Travis Scott Fortnite event with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Ben “Dr. Lupo” Lupo, and Ali “SypherPK” Hassan. Before the event, Dr. Lupo graciously donated $25,000 to charity. This put him as the top donor for the remainder of the stream. Along with the money raised, CouRage also had over 66,000 viewers during the Travis Scott event.

To finish off the 12-hour stream, CouRage spent the rest of the evening playing drunk Uno. Tim “Timthetatman” Betar, Ninja, and BasicallyIDoWrk joined him for the last leg of the stream. With 45 minutes left in the stream, they were only $41,000 away from half a million. CouRage took to Twitter to make one last surge to reach his new goal. In 45 minutes, they managed to raise over $47,000 dollars, raising over $1,000 per minute during Uno.
Ultimately, over half a million dollars was raised by CouRage in memory of his grandmother, who had recently passed away due to the virus. In times like these, the gaming community continues to show it can make a difference.
