The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel released a new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on Thursday, highlighting plot details, new gameplay elements, and more about the upcoming games. This trailer formally revealed a new Pokémon named Farigiraf.

Farigiraf is a Normal/Psychic-type and the evolved form of Johto’s Girafarig. It stands at a whopping 10 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 352.7 pounds. It is currently unclear how Girafarig evolves into Farigiraf, although the trailer shows it evolving after a battle with a wild Pokémon. As a result, it is possible that Girafarig simply evolves upon reaching a certain level.

Farigiraf gains access to two brand new Abilities in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The first, Cud Chew, enables it to respawn its Berry after eating it. Farigiraf will then eat its Berry a second time at the end of the next turn. The second, Armor Tail, makes Farigiraf immune to priority moves from enemy Pokémon.

Leaked Pokémon join Farigiraf

While Farigiraf was the only new Pokémon to receive a formal introduction, several others made cameo appearances in the English version of the Scarlet and Violet trailer. Notably, all of these Pokémon were edited out of the Japanese trailer. As a result, it is likely that their informal reveals were unintentional.

The first set of new Pokémon briefly appeared in the game’s minimap, alongside the Galar region’s Rookidee. This group of newcomers included a pair of white mouse Pokémon, a green parrot with a black tuft on its head and a Pokémon that looks like a combination of a rock and a mushroom.

Another new Pokémon briefly appeared in the background of a trainer’s selfie. It appears to have antennae, suggesting it could be a Bug-type. Finally, another new Pokémon popped up in the distance next to a Torkoal as a trainer infiltrated one of Team Star’s bases. This new Pokémon is likely a Fire-type since it appeared among other Fire-types. In addition, it looks as though it could be a pre-evolution of Armarouge and/or Ceruledge.

TM Machines, picnics, selfies, and more in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Thursday’s trailer also revealed several new mechanics, including the TM Machine (or as it’s formally known, the Technical Machine Machine). With it, trainers can create their own TMs in order to teach their Pokémon new moves. While these TMs are now single-use, players can craft as many TMs as they please as long as they have enough materials.

Making a TM requires two kinds of materials. The first kind includes Pokémon-specific materials that wild Pokémon will drop after the trainer defeats them in battle. Trainers will also have to spend League Points to make their TMs. They will obtain League Points simply by progressing through the stories and can acquire more by trading in materials dropped by Pokémon.

Another new mechanic is the addition of picnics. During picnics, players can find Pokémon Eggs, give their Pokémon baths and make sandwiches that can produce special benefits. Such benefits include making certain types of Pokémon easier to catch and making the trainer’s Pokémon gain more experience.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are also adding an in-game photo app, with which players can select filters and take selfies with their Pokémon. The games also include a number of customization styles for the player character’s hair and facial features.

In addition, the trailer confirmed that there will be wild Tera Pokémon. Such Pokémon will glow in the overworld. Upon initiating a battle with one of these Pokémon, it will automatically Terastallize, allowing the trainer to quickly discern its Tera type.
