In back-to-back days, the once undefeated G2 Esports not only lost to PSG Talon, they went 0-2 on the day with their loss to T1 at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational. G2, who came off of a perfect MSI 2022 group stage into a 4-0 start to the Rumble stage, are now in danger of missing out on the knockout stage altogether.
Their match against PSG on Day 4 of the MSI 2022 Rumble stage played out just like their match on Day 3. The team was outmatched in the bot lane as the combo of Wong “Unified” Chun Kit and Ling “Kaiwing” Kai Wing walked over the young G2 bot lane, allowing PSG to cruise to an easy 33-minute victory.
G2 tried picking a pair of Yordles with Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski on Poppy and Rasmus “caPs” Winther bringing out the Corki. However, both of those picks failed to do anything. The pair combined for a 2/8/6 stat line. Ironically, the game on Day 4 went better than their game on Day 3. On Day 4, they lasted six minutes longer than their 28-minute loss on Day 3.
However, things got even worse for G2. In their second game of the day, they faced off against a T1 who had just came off of an embarrassing loss to the League of Legends Championship Series representatives, Evil Geniuses. With both teams down on their luck, T1 rose to the occasion.
In fact, T1 looked like their former selves. They outclassed G2, the team that won the first matchup between them just a few days ago. In one of the fastest games in the entire tournament, T1 smashed G2 in just 22 minutes. G2 didn’t even draft any off-meta champions either. They simply looked lifeless.
The loss brings G2’s record to 4-4. The team had won an astonishing 24 professional games in a row before then. That win streak dated all the way back to the start of the 2022 League of Legends European Championship spring playoffs. G2 have lost four straight games since they started off the MSI 2022 Rumble stage with a 4-0 record.
In the first round-robin, they defeated RNG and T1. In the second-round robin so far, they lost to both of those teams. They are also now 0-2 against PSG Talon, who are now only one game behind G2 in the standings. G2 only has two games left against EG and Saigon Buffalo to right the ship.
