The developers for Gotham Knights released a new gameplay trailer showcasing the title’s combat system and mechanics on Tuesday. While the 10 minute trailer demonstrated some unique combat, a gorgeous Gotham City and other new elements, it came with the news that the game won’t release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Gotham Knights is slated for release on October 25, which is right in the middle of the fall lineup of releases. Namely, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will all release right around this time. As a result, it’s safe to say that Gotham Knights will have plenty of competition once it drops. As a result, the team is focusing on the current generation of game consoles instead of dedicated resources to the previous one.

Recently, more and more games have been released without a port for the last-gen consoles. This was inevitable, as the PS4 and Xbox One’s technology and hardware will continue to have a difficult time to keep up with modern games. Of course, there’s also the fact that developers would rather spend their time creating versions for fewer systems. This allows them more time to perfect the game and ensure it’s stable when it launches.

In the past, some games have faltered because they tried to release on too many platforms. Horizon Forbidden West is a great example of this; the developers wanted PlayStation 4 fans to have access to the game but the sequel arrived with an array of bugs and glitches. While the PS4 version likely wasn’t a huge factor in that, it doesn’t help that developers have to stretch even thinner to get a game ready for more platforms.

So when Gotham Knights releases on October 25, it will only be for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players.
