There are plenty of new mechanics in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. From the new Perk Packages to the innovative Gunsmith, players have a ton of exploring to do across the multiplayer if they want to get a grasp on everything the game has to offer. However, there are some smaller mechanics that some players might have overlooked. One of those mechanics is the dive, which is brand new to Modern Warfare 2.
Fans who played the older Black Ops games might remember the “Dolphin Dive” with fond memories. Since Black Ops 2, though, diving has not been prominently featured in a Call of Duty title. The developers at Infinity Ward decided to bring the movement mechanic back in MW2, mostly because they nerfed the sliding mechanic. Diving allows fans to get in a tactical position faster or get the drop on an unsuspecting enemy who’s around a corner or inside of a building.
In this guide, we’ll show players exactly how they can perform the dive mechanic in Modern Warfare 2.
Pulling off a dive in Modern Warfare 2
First and foremost, players need to identify what their crouch button is. If players are on controller, the default crouch button will be Circle/B. If players are on PC, the default crouch button will be either C/Left Ctrl. Of course, players can customize this however they want; they simply need to know what button they press to crouch in-game.
Once players have figured that out, they can head into a game and perform a dive. To do this, go into a sprint and then hold the crouch button. This should trigger the dive mechanic and send your character flying through the air. At the end of the dive, players will end up on their belly with their guns facing outward, ready to shoot any enemies who are near.
Players need to ensure they hold the crouch button, as only tapping it will trigger a slide instead. They also need to make sure they’re in a sprint, otherwise, they’ll simply crouch down or go into a prone position.
