Runes are what any player is after throughout their journey in Elden Ring.

From the moment you step out onto the Lands Between until you’ve taken down the final demigod, Runes are always at the forefront of any player’s mind. They’re the main form of currency in Elden Ring, and they’re required for just about any upgrade. If you’re leveling your character, upgrading your weapons or summons, or buying something from a merchant, you need Runes. Your supply of them might be limited, though, so you’ll want to take advantage of an easy Rune farming method.

This method was discovered by players a couple of days after Elden Ring was released. It simply involves killing one specific mob over and over again and then restarting by going back to a Site of Grace. You can see exactly what mob you need to kill and where to find it in Elden Ring below.

Farming Runes in Elden Ring

In order to start this farming method, you’ll need to be at a moderately high level, around 30-40. If you’re not, then you won’t be able to kill the mob efficiently enough to warrant the time spent trying to acquire their Runes.

To get to the location you need to, head to the Third Church of Marika in East Limgrave. This is along the main road and is in the middle of Limgrave and Caelid. You can see where it is through an interactive map on a fan-made Wiki.

Once at the church, head through the broken wall near the statue of Marika and go down to the bottom of the cliff. Here, you will find a portal, which you need to take. This brings you to Dragonbarrow, a dangerous location in Caelid. From the spot you’ve spawned in, head south until you reach a bridge with a Site of Grace. Rest at it and then proceed back the way you came.

You’ll notice some small enemies with large blades or flails in their hands. This is the mob you need to kill. It’s wise to be on Torrent while killing this mob, as you can just circle them and not take a hit while swinging at them.

These small enemies are located all around this part of Caelid. When killed, they drop anywhere from 1,000-1,100 Runes. If you kill 10 or so and then go back to the Site of Grace at the bridge, you should be able to earn around 100,000 Runes per hour. This can be vastly increased depending on your level and how fast you kill them, however. Returning to the Site of Grace quickly after defeating a dozen or so of the enemies is the most efficient way to go about this farming method.

With some luck, you’ll be earning new levels by the minute in Elden Ring using this method. For more helpful content, check out Upcomer’s comprehensive Elden Ring guide hub.
