There is simply one word to sum up Immortals Progressive’s 2022 League of Legends Championship Series summer split — and that’s heartbreak.
A team that has constantly gone toe to toe with the best in the LCS has continuously come up short. It was like a movie where the underdog looks like they are going to finally get over the hump only for the team to fall at the last second. But what is commonly seen as a tragic tale for Immortals is that, despite their 4-13 record, they can still make the playoffs in their final game of the split because their bot laner Lawrence “Lost” Hui sees it more like a tragedy with comic elements.
“It’s hilarious, actually. The fact that we can still make top 8 is a testament to how big the gap is between the top teams and the bottom teams,” Lost said.
With this lose today, it means everything is on the line for tomorrow's game.

The team came into the summer split with high expectations. They had a veteran roster filled with players that have been in high-stakes matches before. But facing factors outside the team’s control, the team got off to a terrible start. However, over the last few weeks, the team remained competitive against teams with way better records than themselves. And every single time, something went wrong in the mid to late game.
Typically when a team gets close to being able to put teams away, they can quickly develop the skills necessary to do so, learning from the losses. But that’s something Lost said the team hasn’t been able to do.
“It’s been a disastrous split for us,” Lost said. “We have not grown well over the course of the season, we are not solid and we haven’t improved enough to really show up.”
It’s been hard for all the members on IMT this split with players like Mohamed “Revenge” Kaddoura and Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage trying their best to keep morale up. For Lost, he said that there are a couple of factors as to why the team is able to hold their heads high despite the terrible record.
“It helps that our team is pretty closely linked as people outside of the game. We are able to get through things without getting sour at each other,” Lost said. “And also for scrims, we don’t do as poorly as it might seem, if we were getting demolished in scrims for weeks on end then we would definitely feel a lot worse,”
For a team with high morale and allegedly decent scrim results, the team doesn’t lack in two big factors. As for trying to produce on stage, Lost said the biggest thing is consistency which is easier said than done. IMT has just one game left on their schedule against Counter Logic Gaming tomorrow.
The scenario for playoffs is simple: IMT is in control of their own destiny. A win would, at worst, give them a tiebreaker game for the last spot. For what the team can do in just the short time before their game, it just comes down to playing what they are comfortable with.
“The one last-minute change that can help us a lot is just securing a draft that we feel the most confident with,” Lost said. “I think our ceiling is pretty high, it’s just that we lack consistency and being solid.”
Added Lost: “On any given day we are a top-six team but right now we are 0-2 in Superweek. Saying we are a sixth-place team is just not right. If things went better for us I can see us being in that spot.”
