In the three year history of the Call of Duty League, Atlanta FaZe have made a total of three roster moves. Those moves were dropping Priestahh and MajorManiak after the Modern Warfare season and adding Arcitys for the Cold War season. One of those moves was actually required, though, as the league moved from 5v5 to 4v4 for Cold War.
It’s safe to say that Atlanta has experienced the most consistency of any team in the CDL. However, the team is coming off their most disappointing season yet, as they failed to win an event in a season for the first time. While they finished second place a record-breaking four times, some fans are asking if this is the season that finally spurs change in the Atlanta organization.
The most popular fan opinion is that FaZe should drop Arcitys. Statistically, he had the worst season of anyone on the starting roster by a wide margin. Arcitys finished the 2022 season with a 0.96 KD, which was a full 0.7 points behind the next player (Simp – 1.03). While KD is certainly not the be-all-end-all statistic in Call of Duty, fans saw Arcitys consistently finish negative in matches all throughout the year. This led Arcitys to even respond to calls that he should be dropped. The former world champion said that fans didn’t know what went into the 2022 season, mainly citing Vanguard’s inconsistency as a game.
Arcitys also was the in-game leader for Atlanta FaZe, and did certain things on the map that don’t come up on a stat sheet. Whether it’s calming the other three players down or calling for a certain strategy, Arcitys brought more to the table than meets the eye. He also played AR alongside the CDL 2022 MVP in Cellium, which certainly brought his stats down.

Atlanta FaZe revealed that all four of its players have re-signed for the 2023 Modern Warfare 2 season, meaning they’ll stick together at least for the start of next year. That doesn’t give us much to discuss when trying to predict Atlanta’s 2022 offseason. Although, we could delve deeper into what FaZe could do next season if they continue to struggle to win major events.
Looking at possible moves for Atlanta FaZe
Currently, FaZe employs only one substitute player, Prestinni, who is the twin brother of Arcitys. At this point, it doesn’t seem likely that Atlanta would release Prestinni from his substitute spot unless he received a starting offer from another team. That leaves Atlanta’s substitute spot shored up for the 2023 season.
However, we do think Atlanta could do more with that spot. While Prestinni is certainly a serviceable player and might even be a starter for another team next season, FaZe could use the 2022 offseason to secure future talent. The 2022 Challengers scene was chock-full of amateur talent from top to bottom. If Atlanta is looking to the future, they could try and sign one or two of these amateur players who don’t receive a starting offer from another CDL team. This would give Atlanta the chance to possibly groom these amateurs for a starting spot on the roster sometime down the line.
This move also allows FaZe the option to swap a player out with a substitute if things don’t work out in 2023. While it’s difficult to see Atlanta struggling in Modern Warfare 2, nothing is out of the realm of possibility. If this happens, FaZe could tap into the amateur pipeline to make a change. This would be similar to what Minnesota ROKKR did in 2021 with Standy.
Atlanta could also reestablish their academy team. They had an amateur academy team prior to the Vanguard season, which was fairly successful. The team had players like Sib, who is now a superstar for Seattle Surge. FaZe could restart their academy team and sign more amateur players that they could easily sign to the starting roster in the future.
To sum up, the only possible move we can possibly see Atlanta FaZe making in the 2022 offseason would be signing an amateur player to be a substitute. This would give Atlanta security in case they need to make an in-season change, but would also give them options in the future. Reestablishing the academy team would also make sense for the team if they’re looking to the future. Perhaps they could find the next Simp or Pred through this endeavor.
One thing is certain, though, and that’s the fact that Atlanta FaZe will begin the 2023 season with the same starting roster.
