Former TSM mid laner and coach Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg and Rogue AD carry Steven “Hans sama” Liv plan to sign with League of Legends Championship Series organization Team Liquid for the 2022 season, sources told Upcomer on Thursday.
The move leaves former mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen off the roster for 2022, and Team Liquid are attempting to sell his contract, sources told Upcomer, after trialing him in the bot lane. No deal has been made yet.
Travis Gafford first reported on Hans sama joining Team Liquid in a video early Thursday.
Bjergsen, who Upcomer previously reported came out of his one-year retirement and was being targeted by Team Liquid, will take on mid lane duties for a team that made it to Worlds 2021 but fell out of contention in the group stage. The 25-year-old Denmark native will help form the core of the team alongside Hans sama, who is also coming off a Worlds appearance with Rogue.
Team Liquid did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The League of Legends free agency period opens at 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 15, which is when all teams can begin making official signings and complete transactions.
Bjergsen played for TSM from 2013 to 2020 and then transitioned to head coach for the 2021 season. Liquid’s deal with the six-time North American champion is worth $2 million, sources said.
Hans sama had conversations with some European teams, sources said, but decided to head overseas after five years in the League European Championship. One of the former Misfits and Rogue bot laner’s conditions for joining Team Liquid, sources said, was TL signing Bjergsen for the coming year. Details of the 22-year-old’s contract were unavailable at the time of publication, though Liquid would have needed to buy out Hans sama’s contract with Rogue in order to sign him.
