The 2022 League of Legends Champions Korea summer season is well underway, with games happening five days a week. For fans that don’t have time to watch all the action but want to know what is going on, we at Upcomer are here to provide a daily recap of each day’s games. Here is what happened today in the 2022 LCK summer season.

T1 defeat DWG KIA

In the biggest matchup of the week, the two kings of Korea stepped in the ring against each. Although DWG KIA dropped their match against Gen.G earlier in the week, this team is expected to fight for first place in the LCK this season. The next roadblock for them was the undefeated T1, who have won 23 straight matches in the LCK leading into this Week 2 showdown. With T1 and DK looking somewhat shaky, no team was a clear favorite in this matchup.

Game 1 didn’t see much spice in the champion select, as both teams decided to play against each other head-on. Despite the durability patch making early game kills a thing of the past, T1 and DK decided to play this match old-school. Five minutes into the game, DK’s top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon showed the rookie Choi “Zeus” Woo-je who was in charge of the top side of the map with a solo kill, but T1 answered immediately after with a kill of their own on the bottom half.  Both teams were evenly matched through the 20 minute mark, and when two teams are even, all it takes is one key fight to take over the game. T1 got that skirmish around Dragon soon after and slowly ballooned their lead. Despite DK’s best efforts to even up the game again, Hextech soul was the nail in the coffin as T1 picked up Game 1.

Game 2 was another somewhat standard draft between the two teams as they headed onto the rift once more. Zeus got revenge on Nuguri as he was able to get first blood with the help of his jungler Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun. The kill set the pace of the game has T1 grabbed three quick kills five minutes in to give themselves a nice gold lead. T1 managed to secure six kills before DK had one but T1 started to bite off more than they can chew. DK answered back with three kills of their own and for a majority of the mid game after, the gold lead was neutralized. T1’s six kill lead evaporated to two through many small skirmishes. Finally, 28 minutes into the game, T1 were able to secure Dragon Soul and used it to force a fight at Baron. T1 cleaned the fight up quickly and pushed down DK’s base for the 2-0 victory; giving T1 their record-breaking 24th win in a row.

Liiv SANDBOX takes down KT Rolster

Although the first match of the day was a 2-0, the second match still had massive shoes to fill. Liiv SANDBOX and KT Rolster both came into this series with 1-2 records, looking to get back to even on the season.

Game 1 was a slow burn, as both teams could not secure a kill on each other until the 17-minute mark. When a fight broke out over the second Rift Herald, KT’s mid laner Lee “Aria” Ga-eul took out Kim “Croco” Dong-beom with a clean snipe to give KT an ever-so-slight lead. It took a while, but KT finally put themselves in a winning position; capturing Dragon Soul and securing a 5k gold lead. However, KT were not cohesive in their Baron attempt, and LSB took full advantage of it by winning that fight and taking the objective for themselves. With a 5k gold Baron power play, LSB actually managed to take the lead back. At the fight for Elder Dragon, LSB managed to find the engage, take Elder Dragon and complete the Game 1 comeback.

KT started to tire after that loss, and it looked like that continued into their Game 2 draft as they selected Sejunai in the support role, only the third time it has happened in any region this year. But KT showed in the early game the pick was good as they got out to another gold lead this time it was 3k at 20 minutes. For better or worse, the gold lead did not grow higher or lower 33 minutes into the game; but LSB stuck to the game plan that won them Game 1. They took Baron, evened up the gold with it, then proceeded to win a fight for Dragon Soul;  once again pulling off the comeback to take the series 2-0 and improve their record to 2-2 in the 2022 LCK summer split.
