With plenty of Overwatch League free agents still on the market, the Uprising look to improve with a key veteran. The Boston Uprising have signed French DPS player Terence “SoOn” Tarlier, formerly of the Paris Eternal and Los Angeles Valiant. This Boston team is looking to rebound after two bottom tier finishes in the league, and it seems their strategy is to take the best players available. You could argue Soon isn’t that, but he does have the experience on stage plus a successful past. It seems the Uprising have focused on that.

Soon’s past
Before the inaugural season of the Overwatch League, Soon grew to popularity playing for teams Misfits and Rogue. Both these teams were European superteams, and it led him to big victories over teams like eUnited and Fnatic. However, when the Overwatch League was announced, the Los Angeles Valiant sought to add depth to their Immortals roster. They decided to add Soon, and this decision paid off instantly. He immediately became both a fan favorite and a deadly player, leading them to many key victories. One of these was their Stage 4 title match against the New York Excelsior, which they won. As of today, this is the only tournament the Los Angeles Valiant have won in the league.
However, as the teams expanded in season two, the Paris Eternal arrived. They were looking to make a French-focused team, specifically based on their good World Cup performances. Of course, this meant adding Soon to their roster. So he moved, from LA to Paris. While the Paris Eternal’s first season never truly came together, Soon did stay on the roster for the next season. This is where he was demoted to a specialist role, playing certain heroes on certain maps. With the new Korean additions they had, Paris improved to a fourth place finish and a tournament win over the powerhouse San Francisco Shock. Alas, as the season ended, the mass exodus of contracts started. This also led to Soon’s release from Paris, but Boston saw that as an opportunity.
Boston rebuilding
With this signing, it’s fair to say Boston is done signing DPS players for the next season. With their previous signings of Jin-ui “im37” Hong and Ji-won “Stand1” Seo, it’s clear they’re going for a mixed roster. Plus, by signing Seung-hyun “Lori” Kim as head coach, it’s also clear that the Korean players are their core. However, adding in a player who has recently worked with Korean players successfully, and still has a role to play, makes sense. Adding Soon in so that these players have a veteran who can help them progress is key, as well as his specialist roles. With the other DPS, he doesn’t need to start, but he can if the team needs him to. It’s a smart acquisition for the Boston Uprising, but we’ll have to see if this works out for next season.
